Assignments
Individual Assignment - follow these steps:
First, with the rapid pace of a 4-week summer class, it is very important that you quickly review, when beginning a chapter. Have you already mastered the content or do you need to review? Decide the answer to this question first before you begin assignments. The easiest way to do this is to go to the publisher's webset and take the chapter test. If you have mastered the material, 100% correct with a little review, you do not need to learn the chapter material. Obviously, you have already learned it. Therefore, go on and now work on vocabulary.
Second, now test yourself on the vocabulary. Take the chapter test. If you earn 85% or better, you do not need to do the chapter material except for the fill in of the story at the end of each chapter. Make your vocabulary cards of the words you missed. (See "Student Resources." Scroll down to directions on how to make your vocabulary practice cards.) Review. (Remember: Everyone is required to do the fill in of vocabulary words for each story in each chapter whether you have earned 85% or better or not.) Retake the chapter test if you earned less than 85%. If you earn 85%, you have mastered enough words and have a good mastery of the words for this class. Go on to the next chapter. Otherwise, spend more time memorizing the definitions by using your index cards and do the online exercises.
Next, write a summary of what you learned or what one would learn by studying each reading skill of each chapter.
Then, prepare your Read Aloud activity. This will require checking out a book from the library to use with your reading partner of your choice. I prefer you use masterful picture books but you may choose to read more than 4 sessions and finish a chapter book with your partner. That is your choice.
Last, but not least, create your website. Actually, create your website we you progress throughout the term and add as you go. That will be a lot easier than pushing and crashing at the last minute! A good website to use if you don't have one yet is at weebly.com.

Let's begin!
- Go to weebly.com and create your website. This will be your ePortfolio for the course. Each week it is expected that you will upload your work to this site. Suggested tabs might be: Introduce Yourself, Weekly Reflections, Vocabulary Progress, Reading Skills, Read Aloud Project. Choose a design. Publish but don't pay. You might get confused here because you are asked if you want to create a domain. No, not unless you want to spend money. For the work you will do, the website is entirely free. But, you do need to "save" your work often. You do this by clicking "publish."
- Click on the publisher's website and take the test for the first chapter. If you pass with 100%, or almost, go on. Or, oops! It looks like you need to review. Make a note on which answers you got right and which ones were wrong. Quickly read through the chapter and take the test again.
- Download the test and archive it. You will need to put these tests with the questions and answers in your ePortfolio. Yes, copy and paste the test and score you earned.
- After getting an idea of what you will be doing, then, click on the Process link in order to understand how to do the specific assignments.
Repeat this process for each chapter as you begin planning your schedule of what you need to do. If you know the reading skills, work on learning the vocabulary which needs more time to master.
